Cammie, your thanks to the awesome Daddies out there is appreciated. I'm sorry the graduation ceremony stunk for you. It's a once in a lifetime event and not being in a good position to appreciate it is the worst. I'm sorry.

Thanks to all the daddies who stayed faithful while deployed. Thanks to the daddies who didn't want the divorce. Thanks for the daddies who treated the cheaters fairly, thinking of the children first. Thanks to the daddies who worked to be AWESOME DADDIES and raise WONDERFUL CHILDREN while deployed.

And no thanks to the Clay school that didn't bother to hold the graduation of an Awesome Daddy’s Only Child at a suitably-sized stadium. No thanks for stingily offering so few tickets that this incredible father and his family were relegated to bringing lawnchairs and sitting on the grass, or, to sitting in the visitor stands--leaving the daddy to see either the backs of strangers, or the back of his only child walking away across the stage. No thanks for treating this awesome father as if he were a deadbeat dad. No thanks for not providing a large-screen and video displayed to attendees. No thanks for not broadcasting the graduation to deployed military parents. No thanks for hawking DVDs for the only chance to actually see an image of his child’s graduation. No thanks!

That is a happy text. Also in the sense that it makes the reader (me at least) happy. I think it is the combination of spring and Christianity that makes the text so appealing. For people of the Northern hemisphere (I live in Holland myself and we have had a very severe winter, just like many parts of the USA) spring is the best of the four seasons we have. It is a season of hope, a season of looking forward to all sorts of pleasant things like sunshine, light, nice temperatures, all sorts of activities that people can do in the open air: picnics, games, walks, cycling tours, holidays.
Our Christian faith is also a faith of hope, a faith that allows us to look forward to a life and a future that are so beautiful that we cannot even imagine it now. If we live the life of a good Christian, starting as a child and continuing until we reach old age and even death, we can expect to be admitted into God's eternal Kingdom, where we will experience all the wonderful things we associate with spring to a degree that far exceeds all the happiness we can ever enjoy in any season on our earth.

CANVAS Church is sending a team of 12 to Haiti on July 19 to spend a week transporting and distributing over 500 lbs of baby formula to the Ruuska Village Orphanage. We will also be shoing the JESUS film in the Creole language in a soccer stadium just outside of Port Au Prince.
We are working with multiple contacts and have benefitted by multiple organizations in planning this trip including help from NAVY Southeast Command at NAS.
Trip dates July 19-July 25.
