GREEN COVE SPRINGS - Nature provided a beautiful day at The Golf Club at Fleming Island for sixty golfers participating in the second annual Challenge Enterprises golf tournament.  This successful  event raised funds for the agency’s residential program providing the needed support for those individuals who have a desire to live on their own, hold a job, and be a part of their community. 

Pro Shop Gift Certificates were presented to: First Place Team:  Lamar James, Dustin James, Jeff Jacobs, and Tom Lucas; Second Place Team:  The Chipper Lees Family Team; and the Third Place Team:  Darsco Inc. – Bob Smith, Bill Beck, John Starr and Dick Mueller. 

Proximity prizes provided by The Golf Club were awarded to Tom Lucas (Longest Drive), Jeff Carr (Closest to the Pin), Corey Wiles (Longest Putt) and Billy Sampson (Closest to 150 Yd Marker).

The highlight of the evening was a standing ovation during the presentation of an award to Jim Stewart, a Special Olympics Senior Golfer who brought home a gold medal from the State Golf Championship. Jim is the senior man in Challenge’s Residential Program.

The Title Sponsor for the event for the second year was Newman’s Own Foundation, with Major Sponsors, including Clay Today/Clay County Leader, Captain and Mrs. Kenneth Conrad, MD, DARSCO Inc., Plumbing Supply, The Golf Club at Fleming Island, Kindred Healthcare – North Florida, The Chipper Lees Family and MSI Maintenance Supply Incorporated.

The date for the 2010 Challenge Golf Tournament has been confirmed with The Golf Club at Fleming Island for Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, with a rain date for Mon. Dec. 6, 2010.
