GREEN COVE SPRINGS -- The Green Cove Springs Police Department received a regional award for hosting its annual Teen Summit at Spring Park.
The 2009 Regional Leadership Award for Excellence in Public Safety was presented during the 9th Annual Northeast Florida Regional Leadership Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Northeast Florida Regional Council.
The Teen Summit provides information on a variety of topics including drug awareness, school bullying, internet safety, youth gangs and peer pressure. Police Chief Robert Musco said the department started the Teen Summit to provide a proactive model in the belief that the prevention of crime services the entire community and reduces the need for apprehension.
Musco attended the awards ceremony along with Mayor Felecia Hampshire, Council member Robert Page, City Manager Don Bowles and Officer Kimberly Robinson, the architect of the "Teen Summit" Program.
