Clay Sailors earn the Peltier award

GULFPORT, MISS. – Two Clay County sailors are among a prestigious group of sailors attached to the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11 to be recently honored with the Rear Admiral Eugene J. Peltier Award for fiscal year 2012 Units selected for this prestigious award are recognized leaders in the Naval construction force in safety, overall performance, readiness, construction accomplishment, equipment management, logistics programs, retention and training.

NMCB-11 is a Seabee battalion specializing in contingency construction, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance. The battalion is homeported in Gulfport, Miss.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Sean T. Leverette, who joined the Navy in May 2011, is the son of Ottis D. Leverette, of Keystone Heights.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Steven M. Meakins, who joined the Navy in May 2005, is the son of Mary Fraze of Middleburg.

Hogan finishes basic training

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Army Pvt. Kody D. Hogan has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Hogan studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Hogan is the son of Leisa and David Hogan of Baldwin and is a 2010 graduate of Middleburg High.

Maly twins graduate from Navy boot camp

GREAT LAKES, Ill. – Two Clay County brothers recently graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp in Illinois.

During the eight week training, recruits studied the Navy history and mission, core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, drill and ceremony, marching, marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Seaman Ben Maly and Seaman Andrew Maly are the sons of Rich and Kelly Maly and are 2012 graduates of Ridgeview High.
