Man charged with sexual abuse

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – An Orlando area man has been extradited to Clay County to face charges of sexual battery on a victim under the age of 12.

Nelson Ross Summerall, 34, of Avon Park, was brought to the Clay County Jail on Feb. 25 and was officially booked for an incident that allegedly occurred last July. Summerall was extradited from the Avon Park Correctional Institution, a state prison.

A Clay County mother told authorities that Summerall had inappropriately touched her daughter and then forced her to touch his genitals.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office report, July 8, 2012, the victim told an investigator with the Florida Department of Children and Families that she waited a long time to talk about the incident because Summerall had threatened to hurt her if she went public.

The police stated the victim did not have a timeframe for when the incidents occured, but went forward in July because she then felt safe and "that since Nelson is not living at the residence anymore she feels that the victim was comfortable enough to tell her what happened."

He is being held without bond in the county jail and has a court appearance scheduled for April 3.
