Oakleaf Junior High’s girls Fast Pitch Softball team successfully defended their 2012 Wes Whiddon Championship trophy this year by going 3-0 in the 2013 tournament held last week at Orange Park High School. The Lady Yellowjackets ackets were winners over Keystone Heights 7-0, Wilkinson 13-0 (3 innings run rule), and Lake Asbury (championship game) 10-0 (5 innings run rule). In the championship game, Jackets pitcher Kelsey Sweatt pitched a no hitter. The tournament was highlighted by eighth grader Kelsey Sweatt on the mound who allowed no runs in 15 innings. Sweatt fanned 30 in 14 innings pitched. Several Jacket players: eighth graders Jena Curtis, Kristen Schauer and seventh graders Destiny Pacetti and Addyson Mauldin all had good at bats collecting 3-4 hits per game.
Oakleaf Junior High also won the baseball championship of the Wes Whiddon Tournament.
