Students chip in for food pantry

OAKLEAF – It’s not often that a classroom lesson culminates with an act of charity, but that’s exactly what sixth grade students in Faye Ackerman’s career cluster class on human services at Oakleaf Junior High did recently. Students studied jobs and careers that involve people helping people and then got to explore first-hand how at least one career in social services works. Students collected non-perishable items – more than 500 pounds of food – for the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs. Here, they are shown moving the food from the classroom to a van that picked up the goods that will be distributed to local families in need.
