EUGENE, Oregon – The 13th-seeded Florida State University Men’s Golf team, led by Fleming Island grad Josh Lee, saw its run in the NCAA Golf Championship in May end with one stroke the difference between a Top 15 finisher’s cutline at Eugene Country Club at the University of Oregon. Host Oregon, sixth-ranked nationally, won the team title over number one ranked Texas.

The Seminoles were 9-over on Sunday and finished at 28-over for the championship to tie for 19th with Houston and Auburn. An opportunity to get into the Top 15 tie-breaker was had on the 18th hole, but a missed putt from a not-so-easy distance foiled that chance.

“It came down to the last guy and the last putt and that does not always go your way,” FSU head coach Trey Jones said.

Lee, a junior, was the top performing Seminole once again, shooting 1-over for the Sunday round and finishing at 4-over for the tournament to tie for 30th so far. His birdie putt attempt on the 18th to possibly put FSU in the Top 15 for Monday was not converted, but he kept FSU in the hunt all weekend with a superb display. Lee finished with rounds of 70, 73 and 71.

“The underclassmen gave us something to be excited about,” Jones added. “All Seminoles should be very proud of this golf team. They gave everything they had this week and fought to the very end. They never stopped believing in themselves or their teammates.”

Lee executed well on the par 5s all weekend, shooting 4-under overall. The highlight of his tournament was a hole-in-one on the par 3, 205-yard 16th hole that gave FSU life into advancing to Monday’s final stroke play round. Lee also birdied the first hole, a 401-yard par 4 hole.

Oregon’s Aaron Wise was top individual with a 275 score (70-70-64-71) for four rounds.

Redshirt junior Cristobal Del Solar concluded his tournament shooting 6-over overall, including 1-over on Sunday. He tied for the tournament lead with two eagles, including one on the 10th hole that was 395 yards out. He is currently tied for 50th among all players, and ended his round with an important birdie on the 18th hole.

Freshman Corey Carlson played well in his first NCAA Championship, shooting 9-over. On par 5 holes he shot 6-under for the tournament, currently tied for the best among all players. Carlson had rounds of 71, 73 and 75.

Senior Hank Lebioda wraps up his top-notch FSU career with a 2-over 72 on Sunday, shooting 10-overall altogether. Lebioda’s next stop includes a trip to the Mackenzie Tour in Canada. Both Lebioda and Del Solar were also named to the All-ACC Team, while Lebioda was honored as the ACC Player of the Year.

FSU finished tied for third with three teams in the ACC championships behind Clemson and Wake Forest with Lee tying for 29th (219-72-76-71, +3) and Carlson tying for 25th (218, 71-73-74, +2). FSU, Georgia Tech, Duke and Louisville all tied for third in team scores.

The Division I PING All-Southeast Region Team is named by the Golf Coaches Association of America. A total of 156 players were honored across six regions.
