Letter to the Editor: Help fund veteran’s memorial

Posted

Clay County Chapter #1059, Vietnam Veterans of America, along with a committee of prominent local business persons, is bringing a permanent memorial monument to Clay County that will honor and pay tribute to Clay County’s fallen heroes.

This memorial, appropriately named “TAPS,” will permanently honor all past, current and future Clay County fallen warriors who have paid the ultimate price for America’s freedom.

Your support is needed to bring this memorial to Clay County through our “Adopt A Brick” initiative. The “brick” can be used to honor your service, the service of a loved one or in honor of or in memory of someone special. The pavers are 4” by 8” and may be adopted at a cost of $50 each. There are three lines for inscription and each line has room for 13 characters.

We are also seeking donors from the private and business community who would prefer to make flat-rate donations in the categories of Bronze ($150 to $249), Silver ($250 to $449), Gold ($500 to $999) and Platinum $1,000.

On that note, I respectfully request that those candidates who were part of the August primary seriously consider making a donation of your remaining funds to this endeavor. The committee is halfway there in raising the necessary funds to bring this project to fruition.

Checks may be mailed to VVA Monument Fund, P.O. Box 626, Orange Park, FL 32067-0626.

For questions, please contact Gary Newman, VVA president, at (904) 269-1857.

The Vietnam Veterans of America is a 501-C-19 nonprofit organization and a member in good standing with the Clay County Chamber of Commerce.

The project is sanctioned by the Clay County Board of County Commissioners.
