Letter to the Editor: There is still hope

Posted

Like many Americans, I woke up Friday morning to the horrific news of the Dallas police officers wounded or slain in the line of duty. I drove myself to briefing at the Middleburg Operations Center only to find a room full of sad and angry deputy sheriffs. The briefing mainly focused on our safety, but also our commitment to serve the citizens of Clay County no matter the risk.

After briefing, as I drove throughout my zone, is when I realized “there is still hope.” Dozens of citizens who were men, women, and children, of all races went out of their ways to speak to me. Some shook my hand, others patted me on my back and one quietly bought my lunch. They all simply had one thing they wanted to say “thank you for your service.”

These citizens are truly the last line of our defense between those who love us and those who want to harm us. I want to thank each and every one of them that may read this open message. It is all of you that give us hope and reason to serve. We truly do appreciate you all. So, next time you see a police officer anywhere please thank them, because we could never finish the mission without your support.

God Bless You All,

Sgt. Edwin Eisenhauer

Office of The Sheriff
