Herman Greenewalt
Herman Greenewalt entered Heaven’s Gate on February 6, 2017 to take his place at the right hand of the Father.
He was a twin born in Lincoln, NE to immigrant parents, Johann Peter Gruenewaldt and Elizabeth Schneider. He attended and graduated from schools in Lincoln where he is also survived by many relatives still located there. For many years, he owned and operated a window cleaning business. After retirement from the US Department of Justice as Chief Deputy with the US Marshals Service, Middle District of Florida, he managed a condominium complex.
Always a very active person, he enjoyed golf, water sports, fishing, tennis, running, bowling, travel and bridge.
He always looked forward to family gatherings and special activities, fishing trips with son Gary, those lunches and activities with son Earl, bridge games and going on cruises. His many memberships included The American Legion Post 0373, Loyal Order of Moose, Master Mason of Albert J, Russell Lodge 126 as well as a 32nd degree life member of Valley of Jacksonville Orient of Florida since 1943.
Now a resident of Orange Park, the US Navy brought him to Jacksonville for active duty during WWII and recalled him during the Korean Conflict. It was here that he became actively involved in Republican politics.
History will record his accomplishment as the founder and first Chairman of Florida Young Republicans.
Herman influenced and touched the lives of many throughout his interesting and adventurous life. Somehow, he managed to maintain his great sense of humor all the way to the end of his courteous battle with lung problems. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.
Herman is survived by his loving wife, Edna whom he met at the bridge table, two sons Earl and Gary, two granddaughters, two grandsons, great and great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services with full military honors will take place at 11:00am, March 4, 2017 at Magnolia Cemetery, 1040 Kingsley Ave, Orange Park, FL 32073.
The family wishes to thank the many physicians, nurses at Orange Park Medical Center, Pastor Gerald Nordsiek of Advent Lutheran Church where he held membership as well as Life Care Center at Wells Crossing and Haven Hospice who cared for and administered to his medical/spiritual needs. Instead of flowers, a donate to your favorite charity would be a wonderful way to remember him. Family and friends are invited to stop by his Orange Park home after the service.
