Letter to the Editor: Teachers are not happy

Posted

Please be aware that teachers in Clay County are generally unhappy with our working conditions.

Over the past few years, our situation has worsened. Especially over the past year! If you have attended or watched a school board meeting, you are aware of the lack of respect shown by some of our elected officials toward school employees.

They have listened to our pleas for relief for reduced paperwork, reasonable health insurance, living wages, reduced student testing and other issues, but have been unresponsive. Additionally, if you talk with most teachers about the number of hours we spend working beyond our “paid” hours and the amount of money we spend out of our own pockets providing a quality education for our students, you will understand why the School District of Clay County is an “A” District. We are dismayed to hear our elected officials claim otherwise. We are proud of the efforts we put forth to educate our students. We are proud of our students and their accomplishments. We would like recognition and respect for the job we perform. I encourage every resident of Clay County to vote in August for a superintendent and school board members that show respect for all teachers and students.
