MIDDLEBURG - With two tough 1-1 ties to end 2023; to Clay and to Keystone Heights, the Middleburg High boys soccer team was looking to put a marker down for 2024 to gain some momentum for a January run that includes county rivals Orange Park, Fleming Island, Ridgeview and Clay again to finish regular season play.
Against Clay, it was top scorer Xavier Abuhl (13 goals) with the lone goal and, against, once beaten Keystone Heights, it was senior outside midfielder Brandon Anderson who answered the Keystone Heights (10-1-1) attack to keep the game a tie as both teams were 0-0 at the half. Anderson and Hunter Hare both have six goals.
Against Trinity, Middleburg had numerous first-half opportunities before the first-half water break, but could not dial in the soccer frame to end the half just 1-0. Three second-half goals sealed the win. Hare and Abuhl both scored two goals.
