CCSO Deputy arrested for suspicion of DUI while on duty

MIDDLEBURG – According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was arrested on Friday, Dec. 1, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Deputy Austin Leonard Wiser was involved in a rear-end vehicle collision around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 218 and Blanding Boulevard. At the time of the accident, Wiser was on duty and was driving his assigned agency vehicle.

Following the collision, an on-duty CCSO supervisor responded to the scene. The supervisor became concerned about possible signs of impairment and immediately contacted the Florida Highway Patrol to conduct an impartial investigation. FHP responded to the scene to manage the accident and the DUI investigation.

Following his arrest, Wiser was booked at the Clay County Jail for driving under the influence. Sheriff Michelle Cook said that Deputy Wiser, a seven-year veteran of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, has been terminated.

“The Clay County Sheriff’s Office holds its personnel to the highest standards, and any violation of the law is taken seriously,” Cook said. “We are committed to maintaining the trust of our community, and appropriate action will be taken following the conclusion of the investigation.”
