Clay girls, Orange Park boys snag swim runner up slots

CECIL FIELD – Clay High sophomore Sara Stotler and Orange Park senior Jacob Coutant put on a display of swimming prowess to lead their respective teams to second place finishes at the District 3-2A swimming championships held Wed., Oct. 30 at the Cecil Field Aquatics Center.

After being third leg of the Clay

district champion 200 medley relay team that won by nearly eight seconds and grabbed a second slot in the region, Stotler opened up the individual event power grab with a 15 second blowout of the 200 individual medley field.

Coutant, in the 200 free, settled in off the shoulder of Ponte Vedra’s Andrew Relihan for two of the four laps before turning on the jets and blowing by Relihan on the third lap to win in 1:47.62 with Relihan at 1:48.46. Also in the 200 free, Raider teammate Daniel Hinkle finished third with Clay’s Adam Montgomery fourth for a strong Clay County contingency.

In the region lineup, Coutant held top seed with Hinkle fourth and Montgomery fifth.

Hinkle would return for the 500 free and finished second by just four seconds to John Czubati of Ponte Vedra who won in 5:04.46; the top time in the region. Hinkle was seeded third.

Next up, Stotler blew up the 200 individual medley by more than three seconds in 2:06.55 to get the top seed in that event for the region meet.

Next, Stotler shredded the 100 butterfly field by almost four seconds in 55.69 for a top seed in that event with sophomore teammate Kinsey Williamson fourth in district and seeded 10th with a 1:05.53 split.

Coutant would return to the pool in the 100 butterfly to win in 53.36 over Ponte Vedra’s Igo Kazhuro, second in 55.99. Coutant’s time is seeded fifth in region with Paxon’s Tyler Watson clocking in at 50.25. Montgomery finish fourth in the event in 59.83 and is seeded 13th.

In other events, for the Clay boys, the 200 medley relay finished second at districts to Ponte Vedra and is seeded seventh; Sam Bement in the 200 IM (second district, seeded 12th), 100 breaststroke (5th districts, seeded 15th); Zack Eubank in 50 free (2nd districts, seeded 6th) and 100 free (2nd districts, 2nd regions 50.11); Ryan Pritchard in 500 free (5th districts, seeded 8th), 100 breaststroke (4th districts, seeded 14th); 200 free relay (3rd districts, seeded 8th).

For Clay’s girls, Anna Stotler, 200 freestyle (2nd districts, seeded 4th), 100 free (3rd districts, seeded 5th); Jessica Voigt, 200 free (10th districts, seeded 20th), 50 free (9th districts, seeded 15th); Elysia Addison, 50 free (2nd districts, seeded 5th), 100 breaststroke ((1st districts, seeded 5th); Jayde Dillevig, 50 free (7th districts, seeded 16th), 100 back (8th districts, seeded 23rd); Kinsey Williamson, 100 backstroke (2nd districts, seeded 10th); Kathryn Dziwulski, 100 backstroke (9th districts, seeded 24th); 400 free relay (4th districts, seeded 10th).

Ridgeview’s boys got region berths from the 200 medley relay (3rd districts, seeded 9th), Craig Zacker in 200 free (9th districts, seeded 23rd); Michael Johnson in 200 IM (3rd districts, seeded 13th), 100 breaststroke (3rd districts, seeded 11th); Michael Linton, 50 free (8th districts, seeded 17th), 100 breaststroke (2nd districts, seeded 10th); Gage Quigley in 500 free (7th districts, seeded 19th); Eric Kowal, 6th districts, seeded 23rd); 400 free relay (3rd districts, seeded 8th).

For Ridgeview’s girls, 200 medley relay (6th districts, seeded 14th); Carson Cain, 100 free (4th districts, seeded 6th), 500 free (10th districts, seeded 19th); 400 free relay (6th districts, seeded 14th).

Orange Park’s boys got region berths from the boys 200 medley relay (5th districts, seeded 12th); Keenan Restall, 50 free (3rd districts, seeded 7th); Aidan Siebold in 100 free (7th districts, seeded 24th); 200 free relay (2nd districts, seeded sixth); 400 free relay (2nd districts, seeded 5th).

For Orange Park’s girls, Dorian Durig, 200 IM (7th districts, seeded 19th), 100 butterfly (6th districts, seeded 22nd);
