Clay High’s Kristen Carlisle battled to a five pound win at her region 1-2A championship and will need to be wary of her competition at the February 5 state meet in Kissimmee.
Middleburg High lifter Neva Clinkscale finished second in region 1-2A and will be a top contender for a state title in Kissimmee on February 5.
Clay High senior 170-pounder Jake Bain pinned Fleming Island senior Nick Baliya to put the Blue Devils ahead in the penultimate match in a wrestling win over Fleming Island.
Fleming Island High sophomore John Martorano, on bottom, avenged an earlier season loss to Clay junior Adam Breindel at the Clay Rotary with a pin in the 2014 Tussel of Muscle. Breindel continued on to win two state titles.

St. Johns Country Day School’s girls soccer team got four goals from Abby Newton en route to an 8-0 region quarterfinal win over Rocky Bayou on January 21. Spartans continue to a region semifinal match with St. Josephs on January 26 and a possible region final on January 29.
