Bates named to summer
Dean’s List

VALDOSTA, Ga. –Valdosta State University recently named a Clay County student to its Summer 2018 Dean’s List.
Tessa Bates of Orange Park was one of more than 200 students earned a spot on the Summer 2018 Dean’s List.
Students who achieve a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher are recognized by being placed on the Dean’s List.
Established in 1913 as South Georgia State Normal College, Valdosta State University is a comprehensive university that offers both the extensive academic, cultural, and social opportunities of a major university and the small classes and close, personal attention of smaller institutions.

Clay students earn summer honors at TCC
TALLAHASSEE – Thomas O’Byrne of Orange Park was among more than 700 students named to the summer 2018 Dean’s List at Tallahassee Community College. Students on the Dean’s Listed earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Katlyn Hatfield of Green Cove Springs was named to the TCC Summer 2018 President’s List.
Hatfield was among more than 850 students who earned a semester grade point average of 4.0.
Offering an Associate in Arts degree for transfer to a state university in multiple tracks, as well as over 70 different degree and certificate programs that encompass a variety of fields, TCC has a wide range of educational pathways for students from all walks of life.

Williamson of named to UA Dean’s List
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Richard Kinkaid Williamson of Orange Park was named to the University of Alabama Dean’s List for summer 2018.
A total of 493 students enrolled during the 2018 summer term at UA were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0.
The UA Dean’s and President’s lists recognize full-time undergraduate students.
UA is dedicated to achieving excellence in scholarship, collaboration and intellectual engagement; providing public outreach and service to the state of Alabama and the nation; and nurturing a campus environment that fosters collegiality, respect and inclusivity.

Gibbs graduates from UA
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A Keystone Heights student was one of some 1,342 students awarded a degree this summer at The University of Alabama’s Aug. 4 commencement.
Morgan Gibbs of Keystone Heights graduated with a bachelor of science in human environmental science.

Potts awarded the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra scholarship
VALDOSTA, Ga. – Syanne Potts of Orange Park has been awarded the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra Scholarship at Valdosta State University for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Potts is one of 169 currently enrolled, incoming first-year, or transfer students selected to receive a scholarship through VSU Foundation Inc. These scholarships were established by private donors and are awarded each year to students with excellent academic achievement and/or financial need. Each recipient represents the high standards of the university.

Flemmings graduates from Mercer University
MACON/ATLANTA, Ga. – Mercer University conferred bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees to nearly 2,200 students representing 12 schools and colleges at four ceremonies during May in Macon and Atlanta, including one student from Clay County.
Kayla Flemmings, of Orange Park, graduated from the Tift College of Education and received a master of education degree.
