BARTRAM TRAIL – Despite a slow start, the Fleming Island High boys soccer team, led by two goals from senior Reed Davis, bumped a 2-0 district 4-4A win over Bartram Trail High on Thurs., Dec. 14 at Bartram Trail High School.,
“They weren’t coming to the ball, we were getting beat in the middle and we were slow to start” said Fleing Island coach Michael Green. Senior Reed Davis would use a pair of goals, one in each half, to edge out the Bears 2-0 keeping the team unbeaten with a 4-4 tie to Bolles.
About the 10-minute mark, forward Marcus Murphy, who heads to University of South Florida in January, found a seam and left Davis one-on-one with his defender. Davis put the game at 1-0 with 16:06 of the first half.
“It was Marcus (Murphy); he played the ball over to me, they tried putting two players on me and I just shot it,” said Davis.”
With 6:47 left to play and Bartram Trail trying desperately to tie the contest, the Golden Eagles got a penalty kick off ahand ball that Davis buried to end the scoring at 2-0.
