ORANGE PARK – The smallest member of the Orange Park High flag football team, 4’-10” Larickya Cummings, came up with most of the big plays as the Raiders trounced visiting Ed White 41-0 Wednesday night at Orange Park High School.
Cummings, whose main job is patrolling the center of the Raider defense, snagged a first series interception that set up a Raider score, caught a touchdown pass and ended her night with a Tony Dorsett-like 60 yard sprint to paydirt in the fourth quarter.
Orange Park quarterback Harlee Sharp hit wideouts Jaycie Ankrom and Rosa Sawyer for scores on the night, but Cummings was the star of the game.
Orange Park’s defense got the first big play of the night with Cummings snagging an Ed White pass near the 20 yard line and setting up Sharp with first down and goal at the White five yard line. Sharp immediately found Ankrom with a pass then hit Nayeli Williams for the point after and a quick 7-0 Raider lead.
After a second defensive stand, Sharp found Sawyer for her first score of the night for the dynamic duo on a fourth down play from 20 yards out.
The Raiders offense kept clicking on their next possession with Cummings breaking down the sideline on a sweep and Sharp scrambling putting the Raiders at the White 20. From there, Sharp found Ankrom at the 10 on a scramble pass. Kaylee Ohar dropped a crowded pass in the end zone, but Sharp found Cummings just inside the end zone corner for a tiptoe catch and a 21-0 Raider lead with 3:19 left in the half. Ankrom blasted into the end zone for the point after.
In the second half, Sharp found Sawyer on a hook pattern to put the Raiders at the White 24 yard line then took the ball in on a run up the middle for a score and 26-0 lead with 8:01 left in the third. Ohar made up for her earlier drop with a snag for the point after.
The Raiders’ defense again forced a White punt that Ohar nearly blocked, but Ankrom picked up at the 30 and danced down the sideline to the White five yard line. Sharp found Sawyer for a second score with an end zone pass to push the score to 34-0 with Ankrom catching the point after pass.
Near the middle of the fourth quarter, Cummings slashed left and found open field in front of the Ed White sideline before hitting the jets to the end zone. Sharp made a Bo Jackson-like dive into the end zone for the final 41-0 score.
