ORANGE PARK – According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a couple led a deputy on a short high-speed chase after he noticed a man and a woman get into a car with an expired license tag at a convenience store.

After he stopped them, Jacob Levi Carter, 28, of Maxville, wound up being charged on April 24 with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, attempting to flee law enforcement with lights and siren active and running a stop sign after the chase ended in a driveway on Norton Avenue.

According to the arrest report, deputies found cut straws, burned foil, a plastic bag with a small amount of fentanyl, a clear pipe, methamphetamine rocks and a silver spoon with fentanyl residue.

Carter’s bond was set at $67,508. He was also issued a warning for the expired tag.
