ORANGE PARK – A 24-year-old man already convicted of gang-related crimes was arrested on March 27 for having a handgun and drugs during a traffic stop for not having a tag light.
D’Eante De’Ell-Waleed Corker, of Orange Park, was booked into the Clay County Jail after being charged with possession of a firearm and ammo by a gang-affiliated felon, violation of probation, battery on a deputy, resisting arrest with violence, attempted escape, possession of cocaine and attempting to smuggle contraband into the county jail.
After a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw him driving on Wells Road at 2:14 a.m. without a tag light. K-9 Odin alerted deputies of the likely presence of illegal narcotics in the car. During the search, they discovered a .40 caliber handgun. Since he was a felon, he was arrested.
Once at the sub-station, CCSO said he fought with deputies and attempted to escape. As they were escorting him to a patrol car, Corker struck the deputy in the arm and threw his weight into the deputy to throw him off balance in an effort to flee. Two deputies were able to subdue Corker and place him in the patrol car.
During the booking process, detention deputies found two tin foil packets hidden in Corker’s buttocks. One contained molly, the other contained two rocks of crack cocaine.
Corker’s bond was set at $255,018.
