JACKSONVILLE – A former Clay County high school teacher and military recruiter is accused of possessing and sending child pornography to an officer who posed as a minor, according to a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Using the screen name “Mr. Fireball,” Christopher Shawn Potter, 49, of Jacksonville, believed he was messaging a 14-year-old girl in Putnam County, the federal affidavit said.

According to investigators, Potter sent a 14-second video depicting a sexual act between a minor and an older man to undercover officers Feb. 10 via Kik, an instant video messaging platform. Potter also discussed sex and sent a minute-long video where he pleasured himself to the undercover officer.

The report said Potter stated he saved the video and sent it. He also had another image of a nude minor on his phone at the time of arrest.

Potter taught at Orange Park High School from 1997-2004 and Clay High School in 2016-2017, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. He was a recruiter for the U.S. Navy from 2010-2016 and a member of the reserves.

Authorities conducted a search warrant of Potter’s Jacksonville home Sept. 20 and examined his devices via a remote internet connection. The report said law enforcement officers with Orange Park Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrest.
