ORANGE PARK – The annual horticulture program sponsored by the Garden Club of Orange Park was held on Friday, March 15, and featured four outstanding speakers who discussed “Gardening for Bees, Birds, Butterflies and You.”

After Mr. Jamey Wilkes talked about recycling for the environment and the changes coming to Clay County, attendees heard about container gardening for pollinators presented by Master Gardener Bonnie Preissler.

After lunch and the distribution of many door prizes, Master Gardener Sarah Harvey shared insight into choosing pollinator friendly plants then distributed seedlings to each participant.

Rounding out the program was Mr. William Gura who shared examples of Urban Homesteading which included ideas for conserving water and growing more than just flowers. Garden club member Karen Donovan manned a table that explained how to compost, recycle and reuse in your own back yard.

Whatever their interest, the participants were not disappointed by the information shared by these excellent speakers. Add to this an inexpensive plant sale, a Ways & Means table overflowing with garden supplies, artificial arrangements, jewelry and prizes, prizes, prizes, and you have a full day of fun networking with others who enjoy gardening.

The Garden Club is thankful to all who supported this event which helps fund our educational programs and community service projects. It was a huge success thanks to our outstanding speakers, community support and the hard-working committee headed by President Kay Earhart. Our venue may change for next year’s program, but be assured, the speakers, plants, food and prizes will be just as awesome! Expect announcements to begin in January 2025 for the program. Hope we’ll see you there!
