Salon 2000 raises over $40,000 for clean water
FLEMING ISLAND – In March and April, the team of stylists and staff at Salon 2000 worked together and raised $8,625 for St. Johns Riverkeeper as part of the Aveda Inc. Earth Month fundraising campaign. “I have lived on Doctors Lake for 30 years, and I want to see its health improve. Algae blooms, litter and dead fish are not why I decided to live waterfront. We have to do more to help the St. Johns River,” said Lorraine Lillis, salon owner. Since 2012, the Salon 2000 team has raised $40,047 through donations from salon patrons and local businesses to support St. Johns Riverkeeper’s efforts to improve the health of local waterways, like Doctors Lake.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Each year, Alton Heating and Air collects backpacks for school children in Clay County. Alton gives the backpacks to Tim Rust, owner of Fleming Island Insurance who, in turn, gives them to the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs. Food Pantry director Wynema Lovell said the donations are greatly appreciated. Rust recently delivers 25 backpacks to the food pantry. Lovell said the Food Pantry recently hit the milestone of having its 100th volunteer.
