GAINESVILLE - Florida Southern graduate student Alex Guy, a Keystone Heights High School graduate in Clay County, FL, led the Florida Southern College men's track team Friday afternoon at the RADD Sports College Invitational on Sat., Jan. 20 at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center as he set a new standard in the indoor 3,000m at FSC as he established a new program record.
Guy, who set his record after establishing a 4:17.61 mile to win at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on January 12 also at the new Alachua County indoor track facility, continued his outstanding FSC career Friday afternoon as he established a new program record in the 3,000m (1.7 miles) as he completed the distance in 8:31.00 Friday afternoon in Gainesville. The mark surpassed the previous record established last season by Owen Allen of 8:32.16 at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. The time earned Guy fifth overall out of a field of 36. Sophomore Christian Giller finished just behind Guy in sixth as he clocked in at 8:31.75 which would have been a new record but now currently sits in second.
A week later, Guy ran 14:53.49 to finish seventh in the 5,000 meter run also at the Alachua County facility.
Sophomore Chris Colavita finished 15th in the standings as he turned in a time of 8:42.42 which ranks fifth all-time in FSC indoor history. The final Moccasin finisher was senior Bryson Yamnitz who finished just four spots behind Colavita to take 19th. The Lakeland, Fla. native's time of 8:51.30 ranks 10th in the FSC record book.
In the girls one mile at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, former Middleburg High track and cross country standout Emma Mussante, a junior at Florida Southern, finished 11th in 5:17.22. The winner's time was 4:42.99 by Suus Altorf of Florida State University. Mussante was the Sunshine State Conference co runner of the year in cross country and an All-Region selection at the NCAA Div. II championships with her 18th place finish.
In the 800 meters, former Fleming Island High track ace Marisa Kortright, also at Florida Southern, ran a 2:39.73 split for 20th.
For the University of Central Florida, another Keystone Heights grad, Camryn Williams, now a sophomore, ran a 10:57.08 split in the 3000 meters to finish 26th.
