ORANGE PARK – Ridgeview High freshman Marisa Kortright put her name in the “runners to watch” hopper with an 11th place finish at the Bob Hans Cross Country Invitational held Saturday at Ridgeview High School. Kortright, with sophomore teammate Anna MaGruder on her heels, finished in 22:23.34 with MaGruder in at 22:27.28 for 12th place. Middleburg had freshman Emma Mussante in her first varsity race take 17th in 22:57.38.
At the top of the finishers list, Oak Hall senior Grace Blair won convincingly in 19:34.15 with Columbia High senior Bridget Morse second in 20:23.88. Providence junior Audrey Woods finished third in 20:40.19.
Mandarin High, with finishers at sixth and seventh, won the girls team title with 70 points over Providence at 82 and Oak Hall third at 97. Ridgeview finished 11th with 239 points with finishers after Kortwright and MaGruder at 66th, 73rd and 77th.
In the boys race, Orange Park junior John Bear took fourth overall at 17:28.72 behind two Oak Hall runners; first place finisher Austin Montini, a freshman, at 17:29.67, and Collin Kane, a senior, second at 17:23.61. Gainesville High senior Jack Broling was third in 17:25.08.
Other area top finishers were Joel Nesi, a junior at Ridgeview, at eighth in 17:45.14 and Oakleaf sophomore Dylan Nelson at 15th in 18:11.01.
Bishop Kenny won the boys team title with 71 points with Providence, Columbia, Gainesville and Ridgeview filling out the top five teams. Orange Park finished seventh with Oakleaf 10th. Middleburg finished 13th.
Next race is the Bale-n-Trail Cross Country Original at Bartram Trail High School on September 2.
