ORANGE PARK — St. Johns Country Day School is proud to announce that longtime Varsity Girls Soccer coach Mike Pickett has been named as a finalist for National Coach of the Year in girls

soccer by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA). Eight finalists from around the country will be honored at a banquet which will take place at the National High School

Athletic Coaches Association national convention in June, during which a national coach of the year will be named in nineteen recognized sports categories.

Coach Pickett is a graduate of St. Johns Country Day School and returned to the school as a coach in 1999. In 19 seasons, Coach Pickett has amassed a 395-54-30 record, including fourteen consecutive district championships, thirteen regional championships, and thirteen State Final

Four appearances. Under Pickett’s leadership, St. Johns’ girls varsity soccer team has earned six consecutive Florida State Championships and is currently on a school record winning streak of more than 60 games. Coach Pickett was named Florida Soccer Coach of the Year, NSCAA Florida Private School Coach of the Year, and Florida Dairy Farmers State Coach of the Year seven times and has been named FACA State Coach of the Year fourteen times in his career. Coach Pickett has coached two Gatorade State Players of the Year (Carson Pickett 2012, Chelsea Burns 2015), five Dairy Farmers State Players of the Year, seven Florida Times Union Players of the Year, 7 FACA State Players of the Year, twenty-two Division I players, five Division II, and one Division III player.

Coach Pickett was nominated for this national honor by the Florida state high school coaches’ association. According to NHSACA, Pickett’s selection was based on longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years, and winning percentage. “The nominees and finalists are evaluated by experts in the field of coaching using a sport-specific rubric to assign points in each category,” NHSACA said in a statement.
