Benjamin LeMont Zirbel died on August 21, 2018 from injuries sustained while performing his duty as Deputy for the Clay County Sheriff’s Department. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 25th at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Middleburg with Father Andy Blaszkowski officiating, and his burial will take place at a later date in his hometown of Charles City, Iowa. Son of Jim and Cindy Zirbel, Ben was born September 16, 1977 in Mason City, Iowa. Ben graduated from Charles City High School and North Iowa Area Community College. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Anna (McDonald) Zirbel, on July 21, 2001 in Roseville, Iowa. Shortly after, they moved to Tallahassee, Florida before settling in Clay County in 2005. He graduated from the St. Johns River State College Criminal Justice Academy and served the community as a law enforcement officer for twelve years. Ben was a man who truly lived to serve others. He opened his heart to his community, his friends, and most of all to his family. He was a loving father to Ethan, who joined the family in 2012. A dedicated and ingenious problem-solver, Ben loved do-it-yourself projects, traveling, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anna, son Ethan, sisters Shelby (Joel) and Katie, brother, Nick (Lacey), father Jim (Suzi), grandfather, Ed Benedict, and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cindy, grandparents Jean Benedict, Lyle and Ann Zirbel. Ben’s final act of generosity was to pass on the gift of life through organ donation. A memorial scholarship will be set up in Ben’s name with the St. Johns River State College Criminal Justice Academy. Rosalee Janette Pickett Kresmery, age 81, died on August 18, 2018. She was born to Floyd and Bernice Pickett on May 6, 1937. Rosalee is preceded in death by her late husband, Edward “Ed” L. Kresmery; son, David M. Kresmery; step daughter, Patricia G. Kresmery; grandchild, Deborah Ann Kresmery and sister, Eva Faye Solano. She is survived by her daughter, Edith Diane Taylor (Richard); sons, Floyd M. Kresmery (Virginia) and Charles L. Kresmery (Carolyn); sisters, Dorothy Pickett Carver of Melrose, FL, Clara Pickett Cox (Nathan) of Fairhope, AL and Patricia “Pat” Sherman (Rick) of Andalusia, AL and 11 grandchildren. A graveside inurnment service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd N, 32225. Ernestine Atkins Brown Lewis, 81, of Middleburg, FL passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at her home. She was born on October 28, 1936 in Lyons, GA. to Lonzie Burton Atkins and Mary Eva Atkins. She was a graduate of Toombs County High School Lyons, GA in 1953. She married Frank A. Brown "F.A.B." on June 12, 1954. She was a member of South Middleburg Baptist Church where she founded the church library which has been lovingly named in her honor. She loved crocheting and spending time with family. She had an unquenchable love of books! She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, granny, NaeNae and friend, but above all of that, a never tiring servant of her Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Eva Atkins; father, Lonzie Burton Atkins; brother, James Atkins; sisters, Myra Collins, Sue Young, Audrey Black, Earldine Atkins, and husband Frank Brown. She is survived by sons, Robert "Bobby" Brown (Mary) and Bradley "Brad" Brown (Deborah); daughter, Donna Coker (Larry); grandchildren, Robbie, Bonnie, Becke, Michael and Samantha; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild and her loving friend and caregiver, Carol Watson. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Friday, August 31, 2018 at South Middleburg Baptist Church and funeral services will follow at 3:00pm with Pastor Delton Kilpatrick officiating. Interment will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, Lyons, GA. Mr James Wayne Kidd, 50, of Jacksonville Beach, FL, passed away in his Jacksonville Beach home on Monday August 20, 2018, due to heart failure. Jamie was born to parents, CMDR. James S.L. Kidd, Jr, USN and the late Laura Lea Barker Kidd on February 2, 1968 in Jacksonville, FL. Son of a Naval Aviator, Jamie was able to live in TX, VA, MD and back to where his heart always was in FL. He grew up Episcopalian, having the honor of helping his late mother in choosing his family’s church. Jamie had a full, adventurous, yet simple life in his short 50 years. He grew up the eldest of 4, an excellent student, attending Orange Park Elementary, recipient of perfect attendance, Lakeside Middle School, Riverside Military Academy, achieving all-state wrestler, Orange Park High School, earning honor roll, an accomplished soccer player, goalie & referee, ran track & field, performed in the choir, and graduated from University of North Florida, with a degree in Accounting In addition to surfing, Jamie enjoyed skateboarding, fishing, clamming in the Keys, camping, cooking, great music, soccer, boating, camping, a die-hard Bulldog & Cowboys fan. He achieved the distinguished honor of Eagle Scout. Jamie was a free spirit, with an amplified, contagious smile and had an infinite love for his late dog, Roxie. Forever loved and admired by family, he was adventuresome, loved the outdoors and was always awaiting the next great wave to surf. Neighbors remember him as quiet and respectful, while one of his best friends describes him as the greatest guy he has ever met. Jamie worked loyally for clients of his sole proprietorship, J.K.’s Lawn Service, The Union Stagehands, a chef, a carpenter/contractor and in recent years enjoyed restoring a1950’s Packard. The happiest moments of his life were, the birth of his son, Dalton, and watching him grow up in to such an amazing young man.
Jamie is survived by his father, James S. L. Kidd Jr and stepmother Christine Majors Kidd of Cambridge, Md, his beloved son, Dalton Joshua Kidd, a sophomore at Florida State University, his step-daughter, Jenny Davis and former wife Martika Davis both of Jacksonville Beach, FL, his brother Jon Fonda Kidd, nieces, Olivia, Ava and nephew Jon Michael Kidd all of Indialantic Beach, FL, his sister, Jodie Kidd-Turner, brother in law, Geoff, nephews Grady & Trent and niece Quinn Turner, all of Easton, MD. He is preceded in death by his mother, Laura Lea Barker Kidd and his sister, Jennifer Lea Kidd. In addition, Jamie leaves behind his best friend, Fay Shore & his family, many loved aunts, uncles and cousins in MD, ME, CT, CA, OH and Germany, he also leaves behind a lifetime of cherished friends.
