CLAY COUNTY – Alexis Orr of Fleming Island High and Bryce Couey of Keystone Heights High were recipients of the Vietnam Veterans of America/Associates of Vietnam Veteran of America Col. William G. Byrns Chapter 1059 Sid Newberg scholarship.
Orr and Couey received $1,500 each to further their education. Orr will be attending the University of Florida, majoring biomedical engineering, hoping to focus on prosthetics and other medical equipment. Couey will attend Florida State University, majoring in biological sciences on a pre-med track as he plans to attend medical school.
Chapter namesake, Col. Byrns, helped honor the scholarship recipients.
The VVA/AVVA scholarship is available to graduating seniors from Clay County high schools, homeschoolers, private schools and the Camp Blanding Youth Challenge.
