Peace and turmoil

Everywhere you look in the world today, there is chaos. Almost no part of our world has been spared. Some places are in major turmoil.

Throughout the United States, cities have erupted with violence. Even as I write this message, the news is filled with stories of the violence in many places in our country.

Christians are persecuted and killed in many places in the world just because they are Christians. The horror stories are reported in the news almost every day. The days of the martyrs have not ended.

While the horrendous reports are given in the news, the deep dread, and even fear, disturbs the composure of those who have intense feelings about the suffering of others. But there is safety and security in the Lord for those who trust Him.

Paul the Apostle wrote that “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:7)

Whatever the turmoil that may surround us in a world of chaos, God will surround us with a spirit of peace and assurance if we trust Him. Isaiah says it so eloquently: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3 KJV)

It does not come through our own understanding. Who can comprehend the vicious horrors perpetrated today? It does not come through any means other than placing our trust in Him and keeping our minds steadfastly attached to Him.

It may not always result in physical safety. Many have suffered physically. The peace that God promises to those who trust Him is a peace in our spirit. The safety He promises is the guarantee of safety in eternity with Him.

Trust Him today for your eternal assurance.

Peace, peace, wonderful peace,

Coming down from the Father above!

Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray

In fathomless billows of love!
