December home invasion arrest made
GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Authorities arrested one of two men wanted for a December home-invasion robbery that took place in Green Cove Springs.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jayvin Monte Rashard Tobler, 19, on Feb. 6 using an outstanding warrant that was issued shortly after the crime spree.
According to the warrant, Tobler and one other man broke into a couple’s home in the St. Johns Landing housing complex on December 28, 2017.
The female victim told police that one of the men had a gun and ordered her and her husband to lie face down on the floor. She said the men stole both their cell phones “and threatened to kill them if they moved.”
According to the warrant, the female victim was able to identify Tobler for police because his face was fully exposed and she also recognized his voice. Police also noted on the warrant that Tobler lives approximately 536 feet from the victims.
Tobler is charged with one count each of home invasion armed robbery, false imprisonment, hindering communication from law enforcement and grand theft.
At press time, he remained in the Clay County Jail without bond.

Inmate charged with concealing drugs
ORANGE PARK – A woman serving a weekend sentence for petit theft now faces a new charge if introducing contraband into a county detention facility after police found 69 pills concealed in her vagina.
On Feb. 3, a Clay County Jail Detention Deputy, while picking up food trays, noticed smoke coming from the mouth of 52-year-old Jamie Jo Calhoun, according to the police report. After noticing attention had been drawn to her, Calhoun attempted to conceal an unknown object in her underwear. After investigating, the deputy confiscated a clear plastic bag containing four aspirin, four generic Ibuprofen, one multivitamin and 61 unidentified pills.
Calhoun later provided several other pills, although these were in the proper bottles.
At press time, she remained in jail with her bond set at $50,003.

Two break-inss, seven charges
ORANGE PARK – An Orange Park area man faces seven charges, four of which are felonies, after allegedly breaking into two homes.
Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Jacob Thomas Lipp, 22, on Feb. 1 after he allegedly broke into two homes in the 300 block of Lido Place in an attempt to confront his estranged wife over a suspected affair between her and a neighbor.
According to the police report, Lipp allegedly kicked in the door to the home where his estranged wife was staying. He proceeded to wake her up and demand the location of the neighbor. Lipp then attempted to break into the neighbor’s home.
Two deputies arrived as Lipp was reentering the first home, where they found Lipp chasing his estranged wife. The deputies then tackled and arrested Lipp, despite active resistance. Once in custody, Lipp continued to physically resist the officers, flailing around and spitting in two deputies’ faces.
Due to his erratic behavior, Clay County Fire and Rescue escorted Lipp to Orange Park Medical Center. After being medically cleared, deputies relocated Lipp to Clay County Jail.
Lipp is charged with assault and battery during burglary, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, unarmed burglary, simple assault, vandalism and resisting arrest without violence.
Lipp is being held in the Clay County Jail without bond, and his next court date is scheduled for March 7.

Child pornography charge for Middleburg man
MIDDLEBURG – Clay County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Middleburg man after an investigation revealed he allegedly uploaded child pornography online.
On Jan. 18, deputies met with Trent James Stone, 18, after receiving a cyber tip. Stone voluntarily spoke with the officers, despite being informed he wasn’t under arrest, according to the police report. He then consented to a voluntary search of his phone.
Deputies met with Stone again on Jan. 31, where they showed Stone the images, many of which contained underage women being sexually battered by adult men. Police then placed Stone under arrest for one count of possession of photographs depicting children performing sexual acts.
Stone has since been released from the Clay County Jail on an undisclosed bond.

Phone bandit collared
ORANGE PARK – An Orange Park man faces a charge of unarmed robbery after he allegedly punched another man and stole his phone, wallet and earbuds.
According to the police report, Austin Deferran Bland, 18, and the victim were allegedly in an argument at Bland’s home in the Tanglewood area. The argument turned violent when Bland and another man began to punch the victim and take his possessions.
Police said the victim escaped and called law enforcement, who later arrested Bland.
Bland is being held with a bond of $50,003, and his next court date is scheduled for Feb. 6.

Drug deal gone wrong
MIDDLEBURG – A Middleburg man faces armed robbery charges after allegedly robbing two men during an arranged drug deal.
Clay County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Mitchell Tabor Ambrose, 19, on Feb. 5 following an investigation of an armed robbery that occurred in July 2017.
The two victims met with Ambrose, someone whom the victims claim they’ve known for years, at their home so they could purchase $95 worth of cannabis from him. However, Ambrose reportedly produced a pistol after taking the victims’ money. An unknown driver then fled the scene with Ambrose, according to police.
After speaking with Ambrose, deputies arrested him and transported him to the Clay County Jail, where they charged him with armed robbery with a firearm. At press time, Ambrose remained in jail with bond set at $100,003.

CCSO car in a fender bender
DOCTORS INLET – A marked Clay County Sheriff’s Office patrol car hit a Jacksonville woman’s car after she pulled out into the deputy’s path on County Road 220, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
On Feb. 5, Tamar E. Mata, 22, turned left onto CR 220 from Breckenridge Boulevard. Simultaneously, Deputy R. Youngblood, of Green Cove Springs, was driving east on CR 220. According to the FHP report, Mata did not see Youngblood as he approached, and she pulled into his path. Youngblood steered left in an attempt to avoid a collision, but ultimately hit Mata’s Ford Focus on the driver’s side with the front of his patrol car.
Youngblood had minor injuries, and was treated at Orange Park Medical Center.
Mata sustained no injuries, and Florida Highway Patrol cited her for violating the right-of-way from a stop sign.
