Gun threat leads to arrest
MIDDLEBURG – A 52-year-old Middleburg man faces aggravated assault charges after allegedly threatening to kill another man with a gun.
Officers with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Robert Warren Johnson, at 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 25 at his home on the 4000 block of Gopher Street after being contacted about the alleged assault.
The victim told police that an argument arose over a disagreement over whether or not the victim had been invited to take a boat on the property. The victim said that he feared for his life and went back to his truck to seek safety.
According to an arrest report, Johnson then began to approach the victim with a gun and threatened to kill him.
Officers attempted to find the firearm, but a witness told police she believes Johnson hid the gun.
At press time, Johnson remained in jail where his bond is set at $35,003.

Orange Park man dies in Bradford County
STARKE – An Orange Park man died Sept. 25 in a one-vehicle crash on State Road 16, west of Starke near NW 125th Way.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Kurt Ensell, 31, was dead at the scene of the crash that took place at 6:50 a.m.
FHP said Ensell was driving a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup traveling eastbound on SR 16. The truck left the road on the south shoulder and struck a tree with its front end.

Brick leads to felony arrest
MIDDLEBURG – A 26-year-old Middleburg man faces felony charges for allegedly throwing a brick into another man’s vehicle after a bonfire party early Monday morning.
Officers with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Harry Anton Williams IV, at 4:42 a.m. on Sept. 24 at his home in the 3000 block of Main Street after one of the party attendees told police about the alleged fight.
The victim told police he had been in Williams’ backyard at a bonfire party when he and Williams got into an argument about Williams’ fiancée’s purse while the woman was asleep inside Williams’ home.
According to an arrest report, Williams then allegedly punched the victim who fought back and struck Williams in the eye in self-defense, causing a cut.
The man then attempted to leave the bonfire in his car when Williams threw a brick at the vehicle and shattered the rear window.
Williams was taken to Orange Park Medical Center for treatment for his eye and then released for arrest and booking at the Clay County Jail. At press time, Williams remained in jail where his bond is set at $25,003.

Jax man charged with burglary
DOCTORS INLET – Authorities arrested a Jacksonville man for allegedly breaking into a home in Doctors Lake and stealing almost $4,000 worth of video gaming equipment, camping equipment and cash.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office extradited Raykwon Lee Johnson, 22, from the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Center on Sept. 19 and booked him on one count of burglary.
According to the warrant, Johnson broke in to a home in the 3000 block of Murray Street on or before July 13. The victim told police that $750 in video gaming equipment, $1,000 worth of camping equipment and $2,000 cash was stolen from his home.
The victim also said he discovered a Smith & Wesson revolver on the ground in his backyard near a back bedroom and it was not his.
Police used video footage from one of the victim’s nearby neighbors to identify a Chevrolet Camaro that appeared on the street around the time the victim believed the break-in occurred.
At press time, Johnson remained in the Clay County jail where his bond is set at $75,003.

Speeding stop ends in child abuse charge
MIDDLEBURG – What started as a traffic stop for speeding ended in child abuse charges for a Middleburg mother.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Amanda Janell Webb, 36, on Sept. 23 at 6:11 p.m. on County Road 218 at Bluewave Drive. She was originally stopped for going 67 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.
According to the police report, when the officer approached Webb’s car, he smelled marijuana smoke coming from the vehicle. A drug-sniffing dog was then brought to the scene to confirm the scent.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a digital scale in the trunk, two grams of marijuana and a grinder. Inside the cab of the vehicle, officers uncovered 2.27 grams of marijuana, a loaded pipe and a lighter.
Webb faces one count of child abuse without great bodily harm as her child was in the backseat.
She also faces charges of marijuana possession and drug equipment possession.
At press time, she is free from jail on bond.

Pedestrian killed on Blanding Boulevard
ORANGE PARK – The Florida Highway Patrol said a pedestrian died in a traffic crash at the intersection of Belmont and Blanding Boulevards on Sept. 20.
The 57-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, was attempting to cross Blanding in a wheelchair when he was struck by a 2018 Toyota Highlander that was headed north. FHP said the pedestrian was not using a cross walk at the time and, instead, was in the inside travel lane in the crash, which took place at 9:52 a.m.
The driver of the Toyota, William Lambe, 34, of Clearwater, was not injured and no charges have been filed against him.
