Rebellion against God is one of the most serious offenses anyone can commit. There are Christians who believe they are doing right things just because they are not living in outright sin. Rebellion is deceiving.
When you do not live according to the revelation of God’s word about the victorious Christian life, you are rebelling against His word. Rebelling against God’s word is to rebel against Him!
The first sign of rebellion is acting as though you are right and everyone else who is serving God is wrong. When your actions proclaim that you are right and everyone else is wrong, you are in serious rebellion. If you reject the teachings of the word for yourself while you expect others to adhere to them, you are rebelling.
What is the answer to a rebellious spirit? It is simply this: Submission. How hard is it to submit? It is very hard when you have rebellion within you.
Rebellion manifests in hyper-criticism, disrespect towards leadership and a hardened conviction that you are completely right and others are completely wrong. This happens in the workplace, in the family, in social settings, and saddest of all – in churches.
When you are rebellious, no one can completely satisfy you. That spirit churns within you. You know what others do not know. You hear from God while others are deaf. You know how things should be done but others know nothing. You are right; anyone else is wrong.
Listen, husbands. Listen, wives. Listen, children. Listen, teachers. Listen, students. Listen, everyone! Rebellion will place a barrier between you and your Lord that can only be broken down by submission – the hardest thing for rebellion to accept.
Ask forgiveness for your wrong spirit and submit yourself to the correction of God’s word. “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Ephesians 5:21)
This Scripture makes it clear just how serious this matter really is. “Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.” (1 Samuel 15:23 NLT)
