St. Johns Country Day School fought off a gallant Clay comeback attempt with the Blue Devils closing to 26-25 in the third period behind free throws from center Hailie Miera and a layup from guard Angel Pierce before closing the third period with a buzzer-beater from guard Aiyana Haynes to get to 30-29. In the fourth, St. Johns got hot from three-point range with Mary Kate Kent and Kendall Proffitt landing bombs to 46-33 and Nadia Al-Awady cashing in with the dagger at 2:36 as the Spartans got the 55-40 win. St. Johns improves to 13-4 while Clay drops to 11-6. Pictured are (1) Clay guard Aiyana Haynes tosses a pass to guard Teaghan Moses while St. Johns coach Tyler Miller observes; (2) and (3) Kendall Proffitt and Mary Kate Kent both got hot from three-point range as the Spartans pulled away in the fourth quarter, and (4) St. Johns junior Nadia Al-Awady adds her name to the list of three=point shooters for coach Tyler Miller with this fourth quarter loft.
