• Clay County Schools District Asst. Superintendent Susan Legutko tells the school board the district fund balance will end the year with a 4% increase, up from 3.5% from a year ago.
• Four $1,000 scholarships are given to high school seniors from the Wyatt Morrison Scholarship, a program created in the memory of the 4-year-old who died of leukemia.
• Pastor John Sanders hopes to establish the first homeless shelter in Green Cove Springs called The Vineyards.

10 years ago, 2012
• Three-hundred thirty Oakleaf High students are given their diplomas during the school’s first graduation ceremony.
• For the 10th year in a row, the Clay County Agricultural Fair is given a Blue Ribbon from the Florida Federation of Fairs.
• Clay County’s Emily Hyatt won first prize in magnetospheric physics in a student research project sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Community Coordinate Modeling Center.

20 years ago, 2002
• Residents from Clay and St. Johns counties express frustration at a Town Hall meeting at Robert M. Patterson Elementary over not being able to decide where to build a bridge over the St. John River to relieve traffic concerns for the Buckman Bridge.
• Clay County officials learn the state plans to build much-needed exits for Blanding Boulevard which will include a Collins Road exit from Interstate 295.
• With gas prices reaching $1.40 a gallon, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the number of reported “drive-offs” from stations without paying have doubled from the previous month.

• Orange Park Town Councilman James Tillman cites declining health as the reason he resigned from the council.
• ”Project Graduation” is offered by Project Graduation to offer graduating seniors an all-night, chemical and alcohol free party.
• The county’s tax collector’s office said $1.7 million in delinquent property taxes were collected at a tax collector’s office.

40 years ago, 1982

•Lt. Gov. Wayne Mixson addressed a standing room only crowd at the Green Cove Springs Senior Citizen Center’s dedication.
• Harry Perlman, 85, longtime owner of Harry’s Men’s Store in Green Cove Springs, passes away.
• Kitty McGlave said she will run for the District 3 seat on the Clay County School Board – a seat once occupied by her late husband, Charles McGlave.
