Time to rebell: Our Administration must start following the law

When Joe Biden took the oath to become our 46th president, he put his hand on the Bible and said, “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

Section IV Article 4 of the Constitution clearly states, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of [the states] against invasion.”

Our president is not doing his job because he’s not following the law. What’s happening at our border is an invasion.

We all are expected to obey the law and pay taxes (another story for another day), but our Administration simply ignores the reality of our Southern border. According to Border Patrol agents, there have been more than six million known and “got-away” crossings into the United States along the Southern border since the day Biden swore to uphold the Constitution during his inauguration. Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, or somewhere in the middle, that’s a dereliction of duty.

It’s clear Biden, Vice-President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas don’t mind having an average of 7,100 people entering our country illegally – and those numbers came from Mayorkas’ office.

Sanctuary cities like New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco and Philadelphia are starting to feel the surge. The influx of immigrants in New York alone has forced the city to shut down a soccer complex on Randall Island so the city could build a tent city. Earlier this week, New York Mayor Eric Adams said the city would spend an additional $1.365 billion to pay the rental fees for more than 100 hotels that were transformed into migrant shelters.

Meanwhile, many of our veterans and residents are being ignored. According to the Coalition For the Homeless, it’s estimated there are 84,500 homeless people in New York – 27,500 of them children. The city’s response is to take care of migrants.

Thomas Jefferson once wrote to James Madison, “I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing and is as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.”

We need a revolution – not with guns or protests - but with pens at the ballot box. It’s time we elect people who promise to obey and defend the law and follow it.

I’m not anti-immigration, but there’s a process. It’s true we’re basically a nation of migrants. More than 12 million passed through Ellis Island in a 62-year span, starting in 1892. Those migrants entered legally, signed the ledger and went through the immigration process.

The busiest year at our nation’s most-recognized immigration center was 1904, when 1,004,756 came through Ellis Island. Last year, the Border Patrol said 2.2 million crossed our border illegally. The greatest shame in those numbers is more than 85,000 undocumented children have crossed, and nobody can account for their whereabouts.

It’s time our elected leaders stopped using humans as political pawns and followed the law. Or it’s time for a rebellion at the ballot box.
