Twila Jean Shrewsbury

Twila Jean Shrewsbury, 82, of Orange Park, Florida passed away peacefully Monday, January 29, 2024 with her nephew JB Perkins and her niece Ollie Wheatley by her side. 

On April 6, 1941, Twila was born in True, West Virginia to the late Oscar and Ollie (Blankenship) Shrewsberry.

Twila earned an Associate degree from Beckley College in 1961, a Bachelor’s degree from Concord College in 1965, and a Master’s degree from West Virginia University in 1968.

Twila taught at multiple schools in West Virginia including Daniels Elementary, Midway Elementary, Stoco Junior High, and Shady Spring Junior High.  Twila was principal at Slab Fork Elementary and Odd Elementary before moving to Orange Park, Florida in 1971. Twila was a teacher at Middleburg Elementary from 1971 until 1977 and principal of Middleburg Elementary School from 1977 until 2003.  Twila was a champion for her students and received numerous awards and recognitions during her tenure. Above all else Twila was loving, compassionate, and understanding.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Bertha Shrewsberry, Claude Shrewsberry, Clarence Shrewsberry, Samuel Shrewsberry, James Shrewsberry, and Charles Shrewsberry.  

Survivors include her siblings Raymond Shrewsberry, LeRoy Shrewsberry (Janie), Rena Kathleen Perkins (Bob), Hester Mills, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 3 pm at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel.  Shad Wheatley and Rev. Orville Setliff will be officiating.  Burial will follow at the Tom Lilly Cemetery at Ghent, WV. Friends may visit with the family an hour prior to the services on Saturday.
