VALDOSTA, Ga. – Former Ridgeview High tailback Qhahlin Patterson broke loose for a 62 yard run in the second half and later scored off a one yard plunge as the Valdosta State University football team crushed Lenoir-Rhyne 61-21 in their NCAA Division II third round playoff game Saturday in Valdosta.

For the game, VSU racked up its third game of scoring 60 or more points and second-straight in the playoffs as the nation’s leading scoring team.

The third-ranked Blazers remained unbeaten this season and, with the win, advance to the NCAA National Semifinals on Sat., Dec. 8 in Valdosta against Notre Dame of Ohio for a shot at a national title in two weeks.

Against Lenoir-Rhyne, the high-powered Valdosta offense racked up 382 rush yards and 215 passing yards to explode to a 27-7 lead before the first half with offensive coordinator Kade Bell, a Fleming Island High graduate and former quarterback, keeping the Lenoir-Rhyne defense on its heels. The Blazers scored two touchdowns in the third to mark the 12th-straight game of 44 or more points and a 47-7 lead.

In the fourth, senior quarterback Adam Robles threw a strike to senior Stewart Spence for a 54-14 score and junior Quahlin Patterson ran one in from a yard out for a 61-14 score and LR added a late touchdown. On defense, Fleming Island High linebacker Jackson Bull, a Valdosta freshman, handled four tackles.
