FLEMING ISLAND - At last Thursday's meeting, the School Board recognized many of the county’s principals and students for their success.
High school and junior high academic team members were awarded certificates to celebrate their championship wins.
Orange Park Junior High academic team members were recognized as James Comiskey, Ezra Lind, Tyler Howard, Sadie Wiesinger, Miguel Sanchez, Samuel Meristil, Jordana Roquemore, Francesca Catingdig, Declan Dimaio, Ivy Carroll and Blair Dicarlo.
The Fleming Island High Junior Varsity champions were recognized as Shayla Abbas, Lincoln Bailey, Sophia Jiang, Evan Hanner, Olivia Jiang, Sophia Jia, Naomi Khaykin, Shreya Metla and Ava Sahbudak.
The Fleming Island High Varsity champions were recognized as Victor Aguilar, David Rafalski, Samuel Nye, Nathan Alcudia, Kyleigh Bailey, Ted Klopman, Kathryn McNeill, Kevin Taing, Ben Bangkrasor, Margaret Hughes, Danil Frakt, Kennedy Keuning and Samantha Illovsky.
Along with Rafalski, McNeill, Bangkrasor, Aguilar, Bailey, Klopman and Alcudia, four other students were announced as members of this year’s all-county academic team–Keyvon Wilkerson of Middleburg High, Matthew Summers of Oakleaf High and Tyler and Dylan Collins of Clay High.
The students will be headed to Orlando to compete for the state title.
Clay's eight high school principals were also recognized for helping the county receive a 95% graduation rate for the 2023-2024 school year.
Oakleaf High received a 98% rate, while Fleming Island High received a 97%, Middleburg received a 96% rate, Ridgeview received a 96% rate, Clay a 93%, Keystone Heights Junior/Senior a 93% rate, Orange Park a 92% rate and Clay Virtual Academy a 97% rate.
