Cortney Alstatt returned to work last weekend, less than a month following a double-mastectomy to fight Stage 3 breast cancer. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy worked in the control room at the county jail. “I’m still real sore, but I’m feeling better,” she said. “I couldn’t have done this without the support of my husband, my children and, of course, everyone at the sheriff’s office. It’s all been amazing.” Returning to work was another step in her recovery. Alstatt is scheduled to start six weeks of radiation treatments next week to make sure there are no lingering traces of the disease.
