CLAY TODAY – The Florida Forest Service has appointed Andy Lamborn as the newest District Manager for the Florida Forest Service Jacksonville market. This position carries the responsibility of managing five state forest totaling in 66,453 acres of pristine state forest land, all district assets and its personnel. Along with the managing of the state forests, Lamborn is responsible for the overall wildfire management of more than 1.3 million acres of land in Duval, Nassau and Clay counties.

“As the newest Jacksonville District Manager, my goal is to help guide the management of Northeast Florida’s forest resources to make them more resilient to the challenges of urban development so future generations have forest lands to enjoy,” Lamborn said.

Prior to becoming the Jacksonville District Manager, Lamborn began his career with the Florida Forest Service as an OPS Park Ranger on Goethe State Forest while attending the University of Florida. After graduating from UF in 2004, he went to work as a forester in the Suwanee Forestry Center (SFC) serving landowners in Baker and Bradford Counties.

As a Forestry Supervisor II at SFC, Lamborn managed John M. Bethea State Forest, working closely with the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Greater Okefenokee Association of Landowners managing the state forest lands around the Okefenokee Swamp. Most recently serving as Operations Administrator, Lamborn oversaw fire suppression and resource management activities on the east side of the Suwannee Forestry Center. In addition, Lamborn served as Resource Unit Leader for the Florida Green Interagency Incident Management Team and coordinated the logistics for the Blue-Ribbon Staff Ride.

Lamborn is a big proponent for forestry education. Throughout his career, he’s made it his focus to advocate for the educational resources and benefits. Lamborn has spent many of his summers at O’leno State Park as an instructor at the Future Farmers of America Forestry Camp where he helped to spearhead the coordination of forestry programs and contests. He enjoys hosting workshops and field tours for anyone wanting to learn more about forest management and the prescribed fire process. Lamborn also enjoys working with the summer interns to help young foresters gain “in the field” work experience.

Lamborn is a resident of Baker County, where he resides with his wife and daughter. In his spare time, you can find him enjoying recreational sport diving while exploring Florida’s vast resources of springs and rivers.

Lamborn can be reached at Andy.Lamborn@fdacs.gov or called directly at the district office at (904) 266-8350.
