The Art Guild of Orange Park presented scholarships to three college-bound artists during the organization’s May 5 meeting in OP. First-place winners of the annual Courtenay Hunt Scholarship awards were Anja Wehner of Clay High School and Riley Chapman of Ridgeview High; each student received $1,500. Ridgeview’s Amara Henderson earned second-place honors and $1,000.
Dr. Wayne Wood, local author and architectural historian, served as the event's guest speaker.
Money for the scholarships was raised throughout the year through the generosity of the guild’s members through raffles at their monthly meetings and at community fundraisers.
The Art Guild established the Courtenay Hunt Scholarship for a Clay County senior who is planning to pursue a visual arts or arts education field in college.
Applicants are required to apply and an art portfolio with at least 10 works of art. Other criteria include academic records, community service, extracurricular activities and other recommendations.
The art teachers for all three scholarship winners received $200 gift cards. All three winners and their teachers also received one-year membership of the Art Guild of Orange Park.
