Matthew Barnett is the founder of the Dream Center, a program for people struggling with addiction, homelessness and other life challenges.
In the beginning, the Dream Center was only that, a dream. They faced what seemed to be an impossible challenge to purchase the historic Queen of Angels hospital in Los Angeles. The price tag was $16M. Paramount Studios wanted to purchase the building for movie production.
Pastor Barnett had no financial resources or even prospects for that size purchase. But he had two things, a dream and faith in a mighty God.
Barnett said God had impressed upon him these words; “If you reach the people that nobody wants, then I’ll send you the people that everybody wants.”
Pastor Barnett decided to take God at his word. It was a good decision. God blesses us when we help those less fortunate.
Proverbs 19:17 says;
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.
For every person that “nobody wanted” in the infamous “Skid Row” section of Los Angeles, Barnett’s ministry team extended a helping hand. And God, true to His word as always, provided the finances required to purchase the former Queen of Angels hospital property for the miraculous price of $2.9M.
Now all over America, 160 Dream Centers have been started. God has truly blessed this ministry to the underserved and neglected. But it all started when Pastor Barnett took action on what God asked him to do.
When we extend help and encouragement to those who are in need, we are doing as unto Jesus himself. It may be feeding the hungry, providing clothing or shelter, visiting the sick or some other type of assistance.
Jesus said in Matthew 25:40; “I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!”
Picture what a better place our community, our state, and our nation would be if everyone helped someone less fortunate and in need. God will bless you for your efforts!
It all starts with us! Why not start today? May God bless you as you bless others.
