GAINESVILLE - After back-to-back 200-plus yards of rushing from tailback Mike Mitchell, the Middleburg High Broncos offense got stuffed a bit to the tune of just 125 total rush yards in their overtime win, 32-30, over 4A-Santa Fe (now 0-3) on Friday night in Gainesville.

Mitchell, held to 69 yards on 22 carries also did not score against Santa Fe with quarterback Luke Padgett tossing two touchdown passes and scoring off a run to keep the Broncos unbeaten.

Wide receiver Caleb Freytag got more game time with four catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. Freytag also sped 95 yards to paydirt on a kickoff return. Jordan Wells was Padgett’s second scoring target on a nine yard pass play.

Omar Holcomb snared one interception for the Bronco defense with Jared Burt blocking a Santa Fe punt.

Santa Fe quarterback Landon Rogers hit just seven passes for 212 yards with two scores; one a 73 yarder.

Middleburg will host St. Augustine on Friday in a mammoth district contest featuring the sixth-ranked in Class 6A Yellow Jackets, who lost in the Final Four in triple over time to eventual 6A runnerup Lake Minneola. St. Augustine lost a gut-wrenching 32-27 battle with Bolles last week in a game decided within the final three minutes. St. Augustine sophomore tailback Devonte Lyons finished with 199 all-purpose yards against the tough Bolles defense. St. Augustine beat Menendez 44-0 in their season opener.
