Successful event at Thrasher-Horne prompts organizers to return

ORANGE PARK — Before event coordinator Sara Malone started packing up after last Saturday’s Clay Today Active After 50 Expo, she was already thinking about next year’s event, which provides information on active aging for those 50 and older.

“We’re absolutely coming back,” Malone said. “We’re on the second Saturday in August, so we’re looking at Aug. 9, 2025.”

So, she said, to write it down.

This Saturday’s event at the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center was “well attended,” Malone said. Her group pulled some of the attendees aside as they started to leave — especially while they waited for a severe thunderstorm to pass — to get their reactions to the exhibits.

“We always talk to the attendees as they leave,” she said. “They said they all had a great time. They loved the belly dancers, and they loved the pickleball lessons. They also loved all the available information … and there was a lot of information.”

Malone said there were 57 vendors at the expo – all focused on showcasing local products, information, strategies, fitness plans, health options, entertainment, financial and legal advice, insurance and living options for residents 50 and older.

“We try to learn something every year; we try to grow every year,” Malone said. “We loved how more people came out and benefited from the services, and the more they learned, the better. Every year, we aim to increase the number of people we reach and help.
