Cannon earns nursing degree at Spring Arbor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Middleburg’s Mindy Cannon recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing at Spring Arbor University.
Spring Arbor University is a Christian liberal arts university. SAU offers more than 70 majors and programs to undergraduate and graduate students.

Four Clay students on Valdosta State’s Dean’s List

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Four local students earned spots on Valdosta State University’s Dean’s List for the Fall semester.
Ashley Heichel of Orange Park, Tatiana King of Orange Park, Quahlin Patterson of Orange Park and Kyleigh Reedy of Middleburg all achieved a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher are recognized by being placed on the Dean's List.
Developmental studies, transient, and graduate students are not eligible for Dean's List status.
Established in 1906, Valdosta State University is a premier comprehensive university that offers both the extensive academic, cultural, and social opportunities of a major university and the small classes and close, personal attention of smaller institutions.

Middleburg’s Tehan makes Dean’s List at Becker College

WORCESTER/LEICESTER, Mass. – Middleburg’s Donovan Tehan earned a spot on the Becker College Dean's List for the Fall 2019 semester.
Tehan is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in an undecided major.
The Dean's List recognizes all full-time students with 24 or more credit hours earned for the academic year – 12 minimum each semester – whose term grade point average is 3.50 or higher with no grade below a B- and no incomplete or withdrawal/failing grades.

Franklin, Wethey make Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Two local students – Alexander Franklin from Orange Park and Ryan Wethey of Fleming Island – were selected to the Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina University for the fall semester.

Orange Park’s Burns makes President’s List at Mercer

MACON, Ga. – Orange Park’s Maegan Burns, a junior at Mercer University, made the President’s List during the fall semester.

Castile makes Dean’s List at George Fox University

NEWBERG, Ore. – Isaac Castile of Fleming Island earned a spot on the Dean’s List at George Fox University for the fall semester.
Traditional undergraduate students must earn a 3.5 grade point average or better on 12 or more hours of graded work to earn a spot on the dean's list. Castile is a sophomore majoring in computer science.
George Fox University is ranked by Forbes among the top Christian universities in the country and is a Christian college classified by U.S. News & World Report as a "Best National University."

William & Mary selects Rivera to Dean’s List

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Gabriela Montesdeoca Rivera of Orange Park was selected to the Dean’s List after the fall semester at the College of William & Mary.
In order to achieve Dean's List status, a full-time degree seeking undergraduate student must take at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.6 Quality Point Average during the semester.
William & Mary is the second oldest institution of higher learning in the
United States.

Fleming Island grads on Clemson’s President’s List

CLEMSON, S.C. – Two local students from Fleming Island High were named to the fall 2019 President's List at Clemson University. They are: Corrina Rose Laird, whose major is Bioengineering, and Jillian T. Laird, whose major is Chemical Engineering.
To be named to the President's List, a student must achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.

Gardella makes Dean’s List at University of South

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Mason Lee Gardella of Fleming Island was named to the Dean's List at the University of the South for the Fall 2019 term.
To earn a place on Sewanee's Dean's List, a student must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.625 on a 4.0 scale. Gardella is the daughter of Mona and David Gardella.
The University of the South, familiarly known as Sewanee, is an independent liberal arts college located on 13,000 acres atop Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau between Nashville and Chattanooga. It has been consistently ranked among the top tier of national liberal arts colleges.

Northeaster puts Fleming Island’s Zalawadia on Dean’s List

BOSTON – Vasu Zalawadia earned a spot on the Northeastern University Dean’s List for the fall semester, the school said.
The student from Fleming Island is majoring in computer science and business administration.
To achieve the dean’s list distinction, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.5 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no single grade lower than a C- during the course of their college career. Each student receives a letter of commendation and congratulation from their college dean.

Applications for FAU Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program Now Open

BOCA RATON – The Florida Atlantic University Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program has announced it is accepting applications for the Class of 2024. The scholarship offers academically talented, first-generation, low-income college students the opportunity to graduate from FAU, debt-free.
For best consideration, applications should be submitted by Saturday, Feb. 1.
Selected students will receive four-year scholarships for tuition, on-campus housing, books, a meal plan and additional resources needed to complete their college degree.
To qualify, prospective Emerging Scholars must be Florida residents who are first-generation students, defined as high school graduates whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) did not complete postsecondary education. Students with siblings who have graduated or are in college may apply.
Students must be accepted to FAU, then submit a FAFSA application and complete the 2020-2021 Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholar Program application form.
“We are proud to offer this scholarship to students who, traditionally, lack the support and financial means to succeed in college,” said Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program Co-Founder Aubrey Strul. “We look forward to receiving entries from academically talented, hardworking, first-generation students from across Florida looking to improve their lives through education.”
As part of the Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program, each scholar follows The Path, a 17-step program which includes wraparound services such as career planning, mentoring, and financial literacy support, among others. This initiative is aimed at providing students with valuable tools for successful collegiate careers and post-graduate lives.
The Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program was developed by Boca Raton philanthropists Aubrey and Sally Strul with FAU President John Kelly and first lady Carolyn Kelly. A former first-generation student, Aubrey Strul felt compelled to lessen the crippling burden of school debt for students by providing an initial investment of $1 million to launch the program. They continue to work with the University to ensure the scholarship’s continued success and steady growth. Since 2017, the program has grown to include 37 scholars.
“FAU prides itself on being an open and accessible higher education option for students across Florida,” said FAU President John Kelly. “The Kelly/Strul program enables us to level the playing field and provide opportunities for deserving scholars.”
