Fall farmers market coming to Tractor Supply

ORANGE PARK – Orange Park Tractor Supply Co. will bring together talented individuals and businesses on Saturday, Sept. 28, for a family-friendly event to showcase the products and skills of local bakers, producers and crafters within the community. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The biannual farmers market will feature local vendors and their homemade and homegrown goods. The market is a free event highlighting local artisans and their sellable items like candles, crafts, baked goods and produce. The event will be set up outside of the Tractor Supply store, located at 1455 Blanding Blvd.
This year's vendors and community partners include: Homemade Hounds Bed & Biscuit and Cub Scout Pack 25.
"The annual Farmers Market allows our team to support the many talents of our community," said Rick Summers, store manager of the Orange Park Tractor Supply store. "We are excited to welcome our customers to the store this fall for a fun event that spotlights the creative vendors and small farmers in our community."
Local artisans and farmers interested in selling their goods are invited to register at TSCEventPartners.com or visit the Orange Park Tractor Supply store before Sept. 25. While participation is free, all vendors are responsible for complying with state and local ordinances.

Van Zants: Sweet homegrown traditions at Thrasher-Horne

ORANGE PARK – The Thrasher-Horne Center is pleased to announce a special gallery exhibit of Southern Rock Memorabilia featuring the history of the Van Zant brothers. This limited time collection is available for viewing through Nov. 9.
Jacksonville might be best known as the “Birthplace of Southern Rock,” thanks in large part to the legendary Clay County natives who formed Lynyrd Skynyrd and .38 Special. Ronnie, Donnie and Johnny Van Zant were “simple men” who paved the way, alongside their beloved bandmates, for many other southern rock musicians.
Items from this exhibit are on loan from several private sources including: Donnie and Johnny Van Zant, Ellen Powell (widow of Billy Powell of Lynyrd Skynyrd), Ed “Tinker” Wingate, the Honorable Judge Don Lester and historical data originated by the Clay County Archives.
This gallery exhibit will be on display for a limited time, starting on Sept. 27. The gallery is free and open to the public weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will also be available for viewing
during the concerts of Clint Black (Oct. 25) and The Help Somebody 3, featuring 38 Special and the Curtis Towne Band, a St. Michaels
Soldiers benefit (Nov. 9). Donnie and Johnny Van Zant plan to make a special on-stage appearance for this benefit.
For more information on this exhibit or other Thrasher-Horne Center events visit THcenter.org or call (904) 276-6815.
The Thrasher-Horne Center is a performing arts venue and conference center owned and operated by St. Johns River State College. It is located on the Orange Park campus at 283 College Drive.

Meet Magnolia Cemetery’s spectral residents on Oct. 26

ORANGE PARK – Orange Park history will come to life on Oct. 26 when the annual Moonlight on Magnolia introduces today’s guests to yesterday’s residents.
Tours last 45 minutes through Magnolia Cemetery at 1040 Kingsley Ave. will be guided by members of the Historical Society of Orange Park and others, starting at 4 p.m.with new tours starting every 15 minutes. The final tour begins at 6 p.m. after which end as moonlight must guide the way.
Visitors are invited to stroll through time as re-enactors representing Magnolia’s permanent residents tell their stories at various stops along a guided path.
This year’s walk promises to be fantastic. Stops along the way will include benefactress Carrie Clarke, Vietnam War hero George C.D. Allen, African-American entrepreneurs and military leaders. There are so many interesting perpetual characters at Magnolia that to include them all in the guided tours would mean a very lengthy walk. Therefore, following the guided tours guests are free to visit with the several others whose stories can be shared on a more informal basis.
Free parking is available at the First Baptist Church of Orange Park, located next to the cemetery. Admission is free but donations to the Historical Society of Orange Park, a 501(c)(3) organization, will be accepted.
Before or after the tour, visitors can see the society’s pride and joy, the Veterans Memorial. A special observance of Veterans Day will be held at this site on Nov. 11, starting at 2 p.m. All are invited to attend. Bring a water bottle and, if you come for the last tour, a flashlight.
For more information please visit the society’s website, http://ophistory.org/.
