Nominations accepted for Golden Years Gala Service Awards

FLEMING ISLAND – The Allegro Fleming Island will be presenting the 13th annual Golden Years Gala to recognize senior adults for outstanding volunteer service in Clay County.
Nominations are being accepted for the following categories: Volunteer Senior Man of the Year; Volunteer Senior Woman of the Year; and, Lifetime Achievement Award.
Senior adults are important to the community. They are a generation of high values, strong work ethic, commitment, integrity, generosity and loyalty. Seniors are a fine example to all, showing a true fulfillment is to share their time and talents through serving.
Nominees must be at least 60 years old and volunteer in Clay County. Deadline for nominations is Jan. 31.
This year’s Golden Years Gala will be held at Sullivan Hall on Fleming Island on May 6. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. with live and silent auction. The awards program will follow.
The event benefits The Shepherd’s Center of Orange Park, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which provides services to improve the quality of life and longer independence of hundreds of senior adults in Clay County through award-winning educational programming and events focused on health and wellness.

The Color Purple coming to Thrasher-Horne Center

ORANGE PARK – The multi-award-winning musical The Color Purple comes to the Broadway Orange Park season at the Thrasher-Horne Center on March 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Based on the Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and the Warner Bros.-Amblin Entertainment motion picture, The Color Purple is adapted for the stage by Tony- and Pulitzer-winner Marsha Norman with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray.
The revival of The Color Purple opened to great acclaim in summer 2013 at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory, followed by a Broadway bow on Nov. 10, 2015 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. The Color Purple went on to win two 2016 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, two Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical, the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and a Daytime Emmy. The Color Purple played 483 performances on Broadway, closing on Jan. 8, 2017.
