GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Clay County celebrated its 162nd birthday on Dec. 31.

Clay, Florida’s 37th County, was established in 1858, by carving out a section of Duval County in Northeast Florida. Clay County was named after American Statesman, and U.S. Senator from Kentucky, Henry Clay, who served as Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams.

According to the Florida Historical Society, Clay County was a popular tourist destination for northern tourists during the latter half of the 19th century. Visitors loved the exquisite natural beauty along the many waterways and enjoyed the therapeutic warm springs found throughout the county. Much of Clay County’s historic architecture still remains, including several churches that dot the landscape dating back to the mid-1800s.

Clay County Commissioners are celebrating the county’s birthday and the new year with a major announcement. It launched a new Clay County website that’s easy to navigate, pleasing to the eye and full of information right at your fingertips. From the county’s home page, www.claycountygov.com, you can navigate the website by using the top navigation sections, to find links to government departments and services by choosing topics under the Community, Government or Business sections.

Scrolling through the home page, provides you with an up to date and modern look with new interactive “News” and “Calendar of Events” sections. The “Connect” section allows you to easily connect with your Clay County government services, connect with social media, sign up for newsletters and watch video archives.

Some of the new website features include the “Address Look Up” where you can enter an address and easily identify the County Commissioner, voting precinct, closest school location, utility providers, and garbage and recycling days.

The new “I Want To” service widget in the menu bar at the top right of the home page provides quick access to multiple service options where you can get information on Clay County jobs, reserve a pavilion or campsite, report an issue, subscribe to newsletters and much more.

There is also a new “Search” bar on the main screen of the home page where you can type in keywords and quickly find links to pages and articles that contain those words.
