FLEMING ISLAND - With a first score by Daniel Schreiber just 17 seconds into their Saturday afternoon game against visiting Johns Creek High of Georgia, the Fleming Island High boys lacrosse team ousted the visitors 14-8 to bolster a possible region playoff run in just two weeks.

“We have Bolles here on Tuesday and they were the district champions last year,” said Fleming Island coach John Hawley. “We have seen some outside the state teams to try and get the team playoff ready and it seems to be working.”

Johns Creek, a Class 6A-7A lacrosse program with a 9-4 overall record, visited Fleming Island after a Friday night 16-11 win over Bartram Trail, had no answer to the Golden Eagles front trio of Eric Dobson, Schreiber and Daniel Horrell who scored repeatedly on front line attacks on the Gladiator defense.

Johns Creeks stayed close with a 3-3 score to the 4:15 to go mark with goals with Horrell scoring twice after Schreiber with Justin Cooler icing the final goal of the first quarter with Fleming Island up 4-3.

In the second quarter, Fleming Island upped the ante with Dobson taking slashing shots from left to right pushing the Johns Creek defense closer to their goal and offering rebounds to the Fleming Island second wave of attack.

Schreiber scored his second of the day after a flag put Fleming Island a man up with Dobson adding one to go up 5-4. Shafer Clark got a feed from Ryan Suhrer to 6-4 with Dobson feeding Schreiber to 7-4 with 7:23 in the half.

Dobson finished two runs before the half to put the score at 9-5.

In the third, Dobson took a feed from Suhrer on a crossing pattern after a whiff from Matt Welsh and pushed another goal in before Hayden Spiller pushed the score to 11-5.

Schreiber added one to 12-5 to end the third.

After Johns Creek snuck one by goalie Korbin Hamilton to get the game to 12-6, Dobson took an assist from Horrell to answer before Clark took off from behind the Johns Creek net and scored off a twisting backhand to hit the final 14-8.
